We offer an unaccredited PGY-1 internship in Internal Medicine at certain ACGME accredited residency programs. This is a unique opportunity for medical school graduates to get valuable clinical experience as preparation for an actual accredited ACGME residency program. This internship will enable you to showcase your talents and prove yourself for an accredited PGY-1 position. Residents Medical exclusively offers this to help those candidates with low scores and attempts, the out-of-practice, FMG/IMG, or any candidate serious about training. You will have the same curriculum and be insured as an accredited PGY-1 resident.
To get you on a route to residency, externships/research and the unaccredited are the most common paths recommended to our candidates. By sponsoring the unaccredited PGY-1 and multiple research programs throughout the country, we are keeping their doors open for our candidates. Both, research and Unaccredited PGY-1 programs are conducted under the guidance of a program director at university-affiliated hospitals.
The unaccredited PGY-1 program on the east coast is an actual ACGME accredited residency program where you will be participating alongside with and performing the same duties as other residents in their preliminary year. Please note, it is called ‘unaccredited’ because after completing it, you will not get credit for a PGY-1 and will have to apply for a PGY-1 again the following year. We created this opportunity for candidates with low scores and attempts, gaps in their medical education, and minimal US clinical experience so that they will have a chance to improve their credentials and show program directors what they are truly capable of. Being part of a residency program, despite not receiving credit, is an extremely valuable experience.
To be considered for the unaccredited PGY-1, please complete the following form. One of our student advisers will contact you soon. (At this time, the program is available for Internal Medicine only)
